Lower Sixth Form Project 2007/8 pg 2

Major progress has been made in the Adam Clark Memorial Garden in the past few weeks. We've all been busy composting, digging and planting and the kitchen garden is really taking shape. It's been hard work, but we've now dug two fantastic raised beds, mixing the dry soil with some really good quality compost (nurtured for weeks in large containers at the bottom of the drive and delivered in wheelbarrows by some extremely hardworking composters!). We have not only planted potatoes, but we are also beginning to see them sprout, which is really exciting - especially for those claiming, "that was my potato!" We are also beginning to plant beans and marrows and have visions of a summer bed, including strawberries and raspberries.

It's brilliant to have a project like this to escape to every week and also to have the satisfaction of knowing the benefits we are giving to our environment. We are learning so much about yielding life out of the earth and we really are looking forward to eating our own home-grown produce!
