Year 8 pupils from Windermere St. Anne's School joined us at the Stephen How Garden Project to learn about beliefs of tribes across the world. The day was run by volunteers from the University of Cumbria's Outdoor Studies course in Ambleside.

The day started off by splitting the pupils into tribes. They then had to decorate each other with face paints to give their tribe an identity (showing the very creative talents of the year 8's abstract art skills!).

hey visited activities that looked `at animal spirits, the threat to the Penan in Borneo, Native Indian Vision quests and related these beliefs and issues back to our lives and communities. After lunch those that weren't hen-phobics got to feed the free range chickens that are kept at the garden and look at the issues of battery farming. The day was completed by the amusing performances of the Hakas created by each tribe. The year 8's got stuck in despite the weather which really helped make the day a success. Thank you to all those involved, we all left the day having learnt something and of course.. very wet feet!
